The Cypress Creek Grill was started by Texas native Bobby Plough and his wife Jane. They moved to Elizabeth City in the fall of 1993 with the goal of settling into a smaller town and opening a business. Bobby brought with him many years of restaurant experience "It's all I've ever done", he likes to tell people rather than how many years he has worked in restaurants. He is now in his fifties, you do the math.

Together they opened Cypress Creek Grill in 1997 at it's first location on Poindexter Street in downtown Elizabeth City. After 5 and a half years they moved to their current waterfront location. The new location would give way to an expanded dining roon, a sit down bar, as well as a small banquet & meeting room. The view of the river can be seen from every seat in the house, including the bar, while you enjoy dining in the light and airy atmosphere surrounded by prints of herons, egrets, and other water fowl.

The menu is a combination of traditional seafood, Tex-Mex, Creole and Gulf Coast seafood favorites. "It's the food that I'm used to cooking and eating", says Plough when asked to describe his food. The menu's offerings include: Lemon and thyme crusted red snapper, smoked jalapeño and feta crusted chicken breast, Creole crab cakes, blackened yellow fin tuna, and beef or chicken fajitas, to name a few. There are also sandwiches and salads as well, and a bar with full ABC permits.
